EveryPlate Review: My 3-Year Journey to Uncover the Best Budget Meal Kit

Searching for a reasonably priced, simple meal kit delivery service without breaking the budget? In the same situation a few years ago, I found myself. At that point, I found EveryPlate.

EveryPlate drew me in as someone who loves to cook but finds it difficult to commit the time and effort needed for meal planning. It promises reasonably priced, good cuisine that is quick to make. Their motto impressed me, so I decided to try it to see whether it could live up to their marketing popularity.

Having EveryPlate since 2019, I am pleased to share my story. Using their meal kit over the years, I will walk you through all you need to know about EveryPlate in this thorough review based on my experience. I will not overlook anything from the several meal plans they provide to the quality of their ingredients or general simplicity of usage. To offer you the most complete picture and enable you to make a wise choice, I will even contrast EveryPlate with other meal kit companies I have tried.

How Does Everyplate Operate?

EveryPlate is a meal kit service; remember that you must prepare your meals. If you do not want to cook, look at a service like CookUnity, Mosaic Foods, or Fresh N Lean for completely premade food delivered each week. Originally developed out of Green Chef, which HelloFresh bought in 2018, this affordable service is a side project. While EveryPlate seeks to be the most reasonably priced meal kit service, Green Chef presents a more gourmet approach.

Getting registered for EveryPlate cannot be easier. You will first enter an address and contact information, then choose a plan (meal count) and payment method. Plans call for two, three, four, or five meal packages per week with two, four, or six servings per meal. The per-serving cost gets down the more meals you choose. Starting at $5 a dish, the plans run up to $7.49.

The fun part comes next: you choose meal packages from a menu of around 13 to 16 dishes. The meals vary weekly, with favorites returning on the rotation usually. Every one of us has a lot of information, including calories, nutrition, and cooking times. On most EveryPlate meal kits, you can also replace proteins and side dishes in case you hate green beans or have lately had too much chicken. Even the upcoming two weekly meals are available to see ahead.

How Did This Affordable Meal Kit Get Started?

EveryPlate Review: My 3-Year Journey to Uncover the Best Budget Meal Kit

The origin story of EveryPlate is exciting and distinguishes it from other meal kit companies. Unlike most rivals who started small, EveryPlate was developed inside the already-existing meal kit, HelloFresh. EveryPlate has a unique history that allows it to stand out in the meal kit market by using the knowledge and resources of its parent company and, therefore, creating its own identity.

EveryPlate was founded to provide a reasonably priced meal kit service to more people. HelloFresh’s founders understood that although their offering was well-liked, it wasn’t always within everyone’s means. HelloFresh developed a stripped-down, basic version of its offering to close this market gap. EveryPlate originated from this philosophy, which called for providing essential dishes created with few ingredients and easy-to-make methods. This lets EveryPlate provide generally the same meal package experience as HelloFresh but at a far lesser cost.

One thing that has often amazed me about EveryPlate is their capacity to keep such cheap rates. In my review, I will explore the techniques EveryPlate employs to keep expenses down, stressing the main distinctions between EveryPlate and more conventional meal kit companies like Blue Apron and Home Chef.

Having said that, I find it incredibly fascinating that EveryPlate does not dominate the market for reasonably priced meal kits. Renowned in the business, Marley Spoon has also seen the need for reasonably priced solutions and launched their line known as “Dinnerly.” I will contrast EveryPlate with Dinnerly in the later section of this review to give you all the information required to choose which is best for you.

What Counts Everyplate Meal Kits’ Simplicity?

EveryPlate meals are among the most simple meal kit offerings. Meatloaf was the most challenging recipe I created; even that only took thirty minutes. EveryPlate is a good choice for beginner or amateur chefs since there are relatively few complicated dishes that call for sophisticated knowledge or pricey kitchen tools. Every meal kit includes a thorough recipe card fit with glossy graphics and directions to get you through. To help you avoid being caught flat-footed, each card also notes what you will need that isn’t supplied: frying oil, butter, ketchup.  Little addends are in the corner to handle minor recipe adjustments if you have decided to substitute a side or protein. For instance, “Did you decide on chicken rather than pork? Follow the recipe exactly, except in step 4, cook the chicken for five to six minutes on each side.”

Who Would Benefit From Everyplate?

EveryPlate is ideal for anyone trying to improve their cooking technique, learn to cook, or infuse fresh ideas into their rotation without breaking. Busy folks, too, since it’s also a time-saver, cutting grocery trips and time spent considering what to make. EveryPlate contains some healthy options, but if you enjoy comfort foods and don’t mind a few carbs, EveryPlate has them in spades.

For Whom Else Every Plate Meal Kits Fall Short?

Every Plate recipe is straightforward. Hence, I wouldn’t advise it for highly experienced chefs trying to improve their craft. On EveryPlate, there are even fewer “healthy” alternatives and even fewer plant-based meals; hence, I wouldn’t advise this meal kit company for vegans and vegetarians. EveryPlate does not fit low-sugar, paleo, or ketogenic diets to maintain low costs.

Pricing for EveryPlate

It’s no contest if your search for a meal kit subscription is mainly motivated by pricing. EveryPlate comes far more reasonably priced than HelloFresh. While EveryPlate charges $4.99 per dish and the typical HelloFresh meal costs $8.99, both memberships carry a flat $8.99 shipping fee. Whether feeding four people or looking for a two-person diet, both boxes should offer one to fit your circumstances. Every order lets you pick the number of meals; if necessary, vary from week to week.

HelloFresh supplies the contiguous United States. EveryPlate ships to most zip codes in the contiguous United States (you can find out if EveryPlate ships to you by entering your zip code during sign-up). Neither firm ships to Alaska or Hawaii.

Do Everyplate Meal Packages Cost Less Than Shopping For Groceries Yourself?

Last time I tested EveryPlate, I also performed a cost analysis to determine how much it would cost to create identical meals if you bought the goods yourself. EveryPlate was about the same as cooking from scratch but with the added benefit of a lot more convenience and time saved in some situations, especially when you figure in gas to drive to and from the market. See the complete breakdown right here.

Should You Pay For Everyplate?

As someone whose job is to review meal kits, I sometimes pick apart small details to find the big picture. But with EveryPlate, it’s easy to see the difference. Though it is the most reasonably priced meal kit service, EveryPlate offers creative and fulfilling cuisine. EveryPlate recipe has not created a meal I did not like in three rounds of testing—nine total meal kits.

EveryPlate down the gourmet dial just slightly compared with Blue Apron or Green Chef, but the dishes I created were solid and didn’t look or taste “budget.” I was getting a reasonably decent bargain at around $5 or $6 a dish. Furthermore, most of EveryPlate’s ingredient boxes rely on less shipping than many of its rivals.

I suggest EveryPlate if you have never used a meal kit before but want to find out if it is a good fit. Especially at those shockingly low new-customer rates of just $1.50 per serving, I have been suggesting EveryPlate to almost everyone trying meal kits.

FAQs

Is Everyplate Healthy?

On the EveryPlate menu, I would classify it as “healthy,” and there are roughly 4–6 meal selections every week. Having stated that, if your sole search for meals is for health, EveryPlate is not the ideal choice. Many of their dishes contain a lot of calories and carbohydrates.
